The longer story
The Beatles release “Help!”, Herbert von Karajan has already been conducting in Berlin for ten years, and somewhere in Toronto a young couple names their baby boy Roy. And the Earth keeps orbiting the Sun.
Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” is playing in cinemas, Udo Lindenberg presents Erich Honecker with a guitar, Roy graduates from a German secondary school and spends countless hours practising Chopin and Mozart. And the Earth keeps orbiting the Sun.
ECM releases Arvo Pärt’s Berliner Messe, Sade records “No Ordinary Love”, Helmut Kohl is no longer Chancellor of Germany, and war reaches Croatia. Roy opens his own music school, conducts choirs and gives his first improvisation concerts. And the Earth keeps orbiting the Sun.
Cara Dillon releases Sweet Liberty, Cecil Taylor performs in Strasbourg, and Roy makes his first recordings, giving concerts in Switzerland and Germany. He is still searching for his own musical voice. And the Earth keeps orbiting the Sun.
Angela Merkel leads Germany, Nils Frahm releases Spaces, and Keith Jarrett performs in Budapest. Roy writes extensive piano repertoire for talented elementary and intermediate students and gradually develops his own distinctive musical style. And the Earth keeps orbiting the Sun.
Today Roy performs both improvisations and original compositions in concert and regularly releases new music on Spotify and other streaming platforms. His YouTube channels offer insights into his musical world, current projects and future ideas.
Roy has adult children and lives with his Chinese wife in the lovely south-west of Germany.
